Permitting
Stormwater Monitoring Permits are often required under permit
under the Antisapstain Regulation under the Environmental Management Act. Recent
changes to the regulation may allow permitee's to utilize more cost effective
toxicity tests for the purposes of reporting. Selective sampling and analysis
for parameters such as zinc may show toxicity to be a result of
"secondary" contaminants which may be readily addressed.
Codes of Practice being written for the Waste
Discharge Regulation will soon replace the "end of pipe"
permit monitoring and are a type of P2 Plan. Companies can benefit from
cost recovery analysis inherent in the P2 process which can result in reduced
liability and lowered operating costs.
